Careers

Sometimes individuals wish to advance their careers proactively or take a longer-term view of their development. Others may be unsure of their future career path or simply want to secure a new role. Some managers wish to support members of their staff who are misplaced within the organisation or become at risk of redundancy. In career:accomplice - our interactive career manual - together with a few one-to-one sessions, people find an affordable way to address these needs.

Facilitation

An away day for a New Deal for Communities’ Project team explored ways to improve teamwork and efficiency. Facilitated by Accomplice, each member completed the Belbin team role assessment and used their time together to review the findings and implications for their team. Individual preferred styles of working were shared, the existing strengths amongst the team were appreciated and an action plan was agreed to cover potential areas of weakness.

It’s been invaluable - we can now capitalise on our strengths, bring in the missing ones when we recruit or work with others to complete the team. It has definitely led to a more efficient and happier workforce. We look forward to working with Accomplice again in the future. Alison Orr, LEGI Inspire & Engage Project Manager, Coventry Voluntary Service Council.

Marketing

The Head of Speech and Language Therapy Service wanted to determine a marketing strategy to assess the competitiveness or contestability of their service amongst potential competitors. Accomplice’s marketing expertise was commissioned for a few days. This enabled the Head of Service to draw together a marketing plan for the service whilst still meeting the everyday demands of leading a busy clinical service. Whilst her team contributed their ideas and knowledge, marketing expertise was also being embedded in these participants and support grew for implementation of the plan.

We could have read the books and done it ourselves but it was a good investment to bring in the expertise from outside: the work moved forward in a safe pair of hands and the skilled leadership energised us to get the work done. And, it turned out to be a good team-building exercise - individuals enjoyed working and learning together. Head of Speech and Language Therapy, Primary Care Trust.

I found the interaction most useful - small group work, then opportunities to discuss further with the whole group. Speech and Language Therapist, Primary Care Trust.

Training

Anticipating the impact of changing policy in the NHS, Accomplice designed a marketing programme for the National Health Service. The Improvement Network (TIN) in the East Midlands subsequently grasped the nettle, piloting this new and potentially controversial training programme. The pragmatic approach focussed on constructing a marketing plan for a physiotherapy service within a simulated health community. Health service managers relished the chance to explore the value and limitations of marketing theory, tools and techniques to the 21st Century NHS.

This innovative programme has really contributed to increasing understanding and knowledge of the commercial skills required in the patient-led NHS. Evaluation has been excellent and delegates have felt both enlightened and supported. Rosalind Maxwell-Harrison, Leadership Development Manager, East Midlands Strategic Health Authority.

I will be able to work through the training in order to prepare a marketing strategy. Communications Manager, Primary Care Trust.

A very enjoyable and informative course that was easily applied to “real life”. Senior Nurse, Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
