Aim
Our popular Advancement Programmes start each new season and consists of a series of ‘one-to-one’ sessions with a development consultant. Up to eight in number, sessions are usually held fortnightly at the Accomplice premises.
The aim is to accelerate the participant’s professional or personal development in one or more areas of management. They are also used to support those who are new to the NHS as well as those returning to work after a career break or period of unemployment. The programme supplements the support offerred to the participant by the organisation and line manager.
Content
Mirroring the content and approach of our Development Programmes, this programme differs in being arranged around the participant’s needs in every dimension. Not only tailored to participant’s personal objectives, the programme is delivered at the time and pace required by the participant.
Learning and development techniques, include mentoring and coaching, as well as additional resources are made available to the participant. The latter includes access to the relevant Accomplice Activity Centre where reflective exercises, templates and tools are available to assist them.
To add further value to the learning experience, in some instances participants may wish to bring a work-based assignment to deliver during the programme. In fact, many select this programme to gain support in delivering a particular initiative. This can be anything from developing their team, devising a strategy or marketing plan, reviewing their staff structure, conducting effective appraisals, managing a project through to updating their CV.
The initial, foundation unit comprises four personal one-to-one development sessions to confirm your career direction, next moves and development needs and embed these into an explicit career plan.
Add two further sessions to draw up a contemporary Curriculum Vitae, easily transferable into future applications. And/or, pull together the know how and materials you need to land that successful interview and other selection processes.
Objectives
Participants are asked to outline their own personal goal and objectives for the programme at the beginning of the programme, in line with any organisational or managerial requirements. Content of the remaining programme is arranged around these learning objectives.
Approach
After receipt and review of the participant’s application, acceptance onto the programme will be confirmed and dates and location for the sessions confirmed. Sessions are usually held fortnightly for one hour, booked in advance at the Accomplice premises.
The first session focuses on confirming the participant’s requirements and on their background and experience to date. Subject to this assessment, the shape of the remaining programme will be agreed, aligned to the specific learning objectives of the participant.
The final session would comprise a review of learning and identification of any ongoing actions that may be required (of the participant, their sponsor/line manager or others).
On completion of the programme, the participant is asked to evaluate their experience and, where agreed, confirm the content of a summary note of progress for submission to their sponsor.
Participant Actions
For the fullest benefits to be realised, participants should:
- book a 2 hour review time after each session to complete their interim tasks; and
- return tasks and other items to their consultant on or before the agreed dates.
Participants are advised to complete a continual professional development record for the programme and assemble a portfolio of best practice and learning as well as their past, current and future evidence of competency development in their chosen field. Accomplice materials may then be added to the portfolio throughout the programme.
Programmes & Dates
Unless detailed otherwise under the specific brief for the programme, most sessions are arranged around the participant’s availability.
